The “Study in Canada Scholarships” is a program aimed at increasing opportunities for Canadian post-secondary institutions to host international students from various countries and territories for short-term exchanges focused on study or research.

Program Objectives:

The Study in Canada Scholarships have the following objectives:

Eligibility Criteria for Study in Canada Scholarships:

    • Must be a citizen of an eligible country/territory. The eligible countries/territories are categorized as follows:
      • Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan
      • Europe: Türkiye, Ukraine
      • Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia
      • Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda
  2. Enrollment Status:
    • Must be a full-time student enrolled at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory.
  3. Tuition Fees:
    • Must be paying tuition fees to the institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.

Ineligibility:

Applicants are not eligible for the scholarship if they:

  • Hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada.
  • Are already enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

For Canadian Post-Secondary Institutions: Canadian institutions interested in hosting students must:

  • Be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
  • Have a valid student exchange agreement with the student’s home institution that waives tuition fees for scholarship recipients (required for college/undergraduate study only).

  1. College / Undergraduate (4 months):
    • Value: $10,200
    • Duration: Four months or one academic term

  2. Graduate (4 months):
    • Value: $10,200

  3. Graduate (5-6 months):
    • Value: $12,700
    • Duration: Five to six months
    • Activities: Study or research at the graduate level (Masters and PhD). A student exchange agreement is not required.

  2. ✔ Airfare via the Most Direct and Economical Route:
    • The scholarship supports students in covering airfare expenses for their travel to Canada, emphasizing the most direct and economical route.
  3. ✔ Health Insurance:
    • Funding is available to contribute towards health insurance expenses during the student’s stay in Canada.
  4. ✔ Living Expenses (Accommodation, Utilities, and Food):
    • Scholarship funds can be used to cover living expenses, including accommodation, utilities, and food.
  5. ✔ Ground Transportation (Including a Public Transportation Pass):
    • Expenses related to ground transportation, including public transportation passes, are eligible for funding.
  6. ✔ Books and Supplies (Excluding Computers and Other Equipment):

Canadian institutions are eligible to receive financial support for administrative and compliance-related costs:

  1. ✔ $500 per Scholarship Recipient for Administrative Costs:
    • Canadian institutions will receive $500 per scholarship recipient to aid with administrative costs upon the student’s arrival in Canada.
  2. ✔ Reimbursement of Additional Employer Compliance Fees:
    • In some cases, Canadian institutions may be reimbursed for additional employer compliance fees paid to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

How Funding Works:

  • Canadian institutions will receive funding from Global Affairs Canada (DFATD) through a non-negotiable contribution agreement.

  • If a student does not take up the scholarship, including the administrative fee, Canadian institutions must return all funds to DFATD.

  • Priority is given to students who have not previously received a scholarship under a Global Affairs Canada Short-term Exchange Program.

  2. Notification of Results:

    • The administrator will not provide feedback for unsuccessful applications.
